There Goes The No-No: 3-1

Ed, Nathan, Peter and Dow beat Angus, Scott and Alex, 3-1, with Ed's walk-off two-run home run.

It's hard to recall a comparable Pike League game, going back to the beginning of the Pike League. No one's ever thrown a no-hitter, or come anywhere close. In today's game neither team had a hit until the last at bat.

The game began as a pitching duel. There were sparse walks here and there, but no runner reached scoring position and no one made more contact than a weak grounder or an infield pop-up. Either everyone was having bad hand-eye coordination or the pitching has improved around the league.

ASA 0 0 1 0 0 1
ENPD 0 0 1 0 2 3

Scott and Alex were able to combine for a run in the top of the third when Dow bobbled a Scott grouder in right to give up a dirty single. Alex was able to work a run in with a walk, making the score 1-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Ed displayed the patience needed to load the bases and walk the tying run across the plate to tie the score at 1-1. The fourth was scoreless, and Ed struck out the side in the top of the fifth.

Ed then came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and showed his trademark selectiveness to put the winning run on first. After working a 2-0 count on his next at-bat, Scott tried his trick underhand pitch. Ed had been sitting on that pitch all day, and wacked it to deep right center for a two run walk-off home run to win the game, 3-1.

Good to see Angus is back in the line-up after the wasp attack at Putney. If Gus had anything to do with this no-hitter stuff, we may have to sick more bees his way prior to the COTW Season finale.
