Game 5 was an epic battle, and a fitting end to the game, series, and season. Dow got the starting nod for his team after pitching lights out in games 1 through 4. A mid-series mound distance adjustment was troublesome, however, and Nathan and Alex got 5 runs in the first by capitalizing on Dow's control problems. All dirties and walks, plus a two-run double by Alex on a meater.

In the bottom of the inning, Dow chipped away at the lead with a walk and a home run to left, making the score 7-2 after one. The home team was gaining momentum; these were the first runs Nathan had allowed during the series.

In the top of the second Nathan and Alex got five more runs on walks and dirties to make the score 12-2. At this point, down 3 games to 1 in the series and with time running out, most would crumble. Angus did, dinking a 2-1 pitch for a weak single to left. But not Dow.

Dow started slowly. Walk, dirty, single to left, walk, walk. 12-4. More walks and singles, 12-6. Double off the wall, 12-8. Walk to load the bases again. Wham, grand slam home run to left, tie game! Incredible!

Alex was able to get out of the inning, but the damage was done. Dow had single-handedly carried his team back into the game with his team facing elimintation.

After a scoreless third, the game needed to be continued on Thursday as they had run out of time. It was agreed that Thursday would start in extra innings, with the batting and pitching orders preserved and the next spot in the lineup due up.

After a spectacular recovery in the first part of the game, Dow, Peter and Angus could not bring home the victory. Alex walked his way to a commanding five run lead in the top of the inning and that was enough to win it. Final: 17-12, Nathan and Alex win the 2006 PLCS 4 games to 1.

It was a great series and a great inaugural year for the Pike League. Nathan is the clear 2006 Pike League MVP, delivering a dominant pitching and hitting performance in the PLCS to lead his team to victory.

Rumor has it that Opening Day 2007 will be some time after Manny reports to Fort Myers.
