Alex put his team on the board early with a true-to-form display of selective hitting. He walked, singled and doubled to put a 3 on the board for the visitors in the top of the first.
Eric, a Pike League rookie, drew the starting role for the visitors and was immediately put to the test. Angus ran a string of walks, dirties, doubles and triples together to jump back into the lead at 7-3. After Angus grounded out, Sarah piled on with singles, doubles and triples to make the score 11-3 after one.
The second was a pitcher's inning, with Sarah giving up one run on four consecutive errors by her defensive team. In spite of the errors it was an impresive performance; she was definitely hitting her spots.
Alex continued the trend in the bottom of the inning. Working around the edges of the strike zone he was able to give up a lead off double to Ed and nothing more. 11-4 after two.
So, with a 1pm meeting deadline, Ed took the ball to close out the game. He got the first batter looking on a mean fast curve. He then took Nathan to a two-strike count. Several times. He could not put the game away, however, as Nathan loaded the bases with walks and singles before clearing them with a three-run homer and a grand slam. By the time we reached the Ed's time limit it was 13-11 and the visitors had come back to win.
Very good to see the Pike League back in full swing. Ed has plans to bring more first-timers next week.
Nathan take first Pike League Game since founder Angus is traded.
