Mayday, Mayday: 5-2

Angus, Sarah and Alex beat Ed, Grant and Nathan, 5-2, in a gritty contest at The Lot.

The game started with clean pitching and good fielding, cruising through the first two innings. Grant, a rookie just brought up to the bigs through Ed's farm system, showed some good pitching early, catching Angus looking at strike three in the top of the second inning.

Ed put a crooked number on the board in the bottom of the third. He forced Angus to make good pitches and connected with a neat triple, double, double string to make the score 2-0 after three.

Angus needed to get those two runs back, and Grant was there to help in the top of the fourth. Unable to corral his 30-degree curveball, Grant managed to load the bases and start the merry-go-round. The walks, combined with some blistering dirty singles, were enough to get the lead back and more before we hit the hard stop at 12:50. Final: 5-2.

Other notable events included late starts by Nathan and Alex, as both were rushed to the stadium with separate police escorts after their contracts were finalized by the front office. After Nathan arrived late, his team showed unusual cunning when they snuck an extra fielder onto the field, something not caught by Angus until after the half-inning was over.

"Fool me once, shame on me," said Angus when questioned about the event after the game, "You have to watch these guys - they're seasoned Pikers and they'll pull a fast one faster than a Massachusetts transportation project can miss a deadline."

Note: Starting next week (5/9), Pike League games will be on Wednesdays and remain on Wednesdays throughout the rest of the season.
