PEI Summer Ball 2008

Nick took home two individual victories and Benny and Gus took the team title over Nick and Job in the second day of Bunkhouse League action.

The weather was most excellent for the Beach Club at Bothwell. The sun was cool and the wind was blowing across the field from left to right.

Nick dominated the early three-side game winning easily. Gus was responsible for the most notable events of the game, displaying his patented "strikeout defense". At least four errors, two resulting in home runs. As was typical for games at Inland Field, most of the scoring was on long balls, with Benny, Nick and Gus having at least two homers each in the game.

After a beach break in the afternoon, Gus took an early lead in the second three-side game, belting two homers to the exact same spot over Benny's head. Nick stole the show at the end, crushing a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the last to win it. Gus made a good effort to get to the ball, but could not haul it in as it was flying past him down the line in left.

Job arrived and the team competition was on. Nick sided with the rookie Job against Benny and Gus. Gus and Benny got ahead early and never looked back. They took turns stealing home runs from Nick all game long. Inland Field is wide-open; it gives you the opportunity to cover a lot of ground to make a play. Definitely a fielder's park. Job came on strong at the end, throwing fastballs for strikes and crushing shots to deep deep left. We hope to see Job at some championship events in the next year.

Note: In deference to the guest from the WBL Senior Tour, Nick, we played WBL rules. Just isn't the same.
