Blistering COTW action returned to Brentwood Forest Park ...
Blistering COTW action returned to Brentwood Forest Park on Saturday June 27th for one of the dry days of the entire month. Field conditions were stellar primarily due to the excessive amount of rain leading up to the event. Afternoon games were action packed and extremely competitive, resulting in a two-game split. Clem, Mondo and rookie Pete Stich were matched up against Chape, GAR, and special guest 'The Fox The Rocks', who joined Chape and GAR for a few innings for game 1. A defensive battle, with seemingly 100's were left on base, Clem, Mondo and Stich eked out a victory, 1-0. Rookie Pete Stich provided highlights in game 2, proving to be proficient in the field as well as with the bat. Stich hit a bomb to left field which brought his team up 3-0 breaking a scoreless tie in the 3rd. Mondo was proficient with the bat all day, providing several key hits and a few RBI to add to the score. CTM had his pitching game back as he and Mondo kept their aggressors at bay on defense through several innings. GAR put his team ahead for the moment in the 4th with a towering 3-run blast to left. Chape added to the damage with timely hitting and solid pitching late as they took game 2 after a few more lead changes, 7-6.

The championship game was one of the most lopsided wins in COTW history. With severe roster changes heading into the evening, CTM and GAR were matched up vs seemingly worthy opponents/late arrivals Rob and the 'Slovakian Powerhouse' Rusty. The end-result was a double digit victory for CTM and GAR however, who outmatched their opponents in a shutout. MVP honors went to rookie Stich, who is expected to continue his solid play in upcoming events in 2009.
